de filter leak

Postby mlangbau » Wed 21 May, 2008 17:20

My DE filter is leaking at the junction between the top and bottom. The O ring looks fine and I have lubricated it as well. I put the clasp on to join the 2 peices and follow the instructions for tightening. No matter how tight it seems to be, I still have water leaking at the joint. What am I doing wrong??

Thanks

Does the oring fit snugly around the tank or is it a little over sized? Possibility it is stretched. Make sure top and bottom of tank are clean and free of all debris. Once you get the clamp on tighten the bolt with your hand only. Then using your pliers tap around the entire clamp and tighten the bolt again with your hand only. Or you can tap while you turn the bolt. This ensures an even snugness all the way around. Once you can no longer hand tighten it with tapping tighten down with the pliers.

It seems to fit pretty snugly but I have followed the rest of your directions with some leaking still happening. I guess a new O ring would be in order so I'll try that next.
