- My Pool: i have a salt water gunnite pool with a hydrazzo finish built in 2018. Beginning in the second year the silky smooth finish has become progressively more coarse with large "barnacle" type deposits. It go so bad we had the pool drained, sanded and refilled only to have it return worse than ever the following year. My pool service tells me its from the plaster leaching calcium carbonate through the finish as cement cures until it's done curing. I'm frustrated beyond belief and looking for an honest answer. Is there any solution?
Calcium deposits out of control
I have a gunnite hydrazzo finish salt water pool with a chlorine generator built in 2018. Beginning in the second year we started to develop hard deposits on the walls and floor. It go so bad by year 4 we had the pool drained and sanded. The honeymoon was over by the next year and it's worse than it's ever been. My pool service guy tells me it's the cement leaching calcium as it cures and there's nothing that can be done. I'm looking for a solution and don't know where to turn. Is the salt water the issue, did the cement not properly cure and never will, will a full refinish fix this issue or do I just have to live with it?

Re: Calcium deposits out of control
Hardening the surface using a high level of alkalinity using bicarbonate of soda creates a calcium carbonate layer but it does take a while. What are your current water test results?
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.
