Calcium Buildup on pool surface

Postby BillyB » Tue 22 Aug, 2006 11:14

I recently resurfaced my gunite pool. Now I have calcium forming on the underwater surface. It is like course sandpaper. How do I get rid of this?

new plaster should be brushed down twice a day for the first 2 weeks to prevent adhesion of scale. try lowering your ph until the scale can be removed with a stainless steel wire brush. then bring your ph back up. underwater sanding pads from 3m work well also but will take a long time

Was using a very smooth chisel on calcium build-up size of dimes and noticed when i just gently ran the same file over the surface area where no discernable buildups- the finsh was really smooth again- like when new. Will sanding then help me??

probably. underwater, power washer driven sanders are available but costly. if you have the time and don't mind sanding by hand then check out the 3m diapads
