I didn’t drain the pool in the fall.

I must have had a leak because the water hasn’t filled to the tile over the winter. I used some pool patch where I suspect the leak was located. I’m not sure if I went low enough though. I’m debating lowering the level a bit more and patching a bit lower before filling the pool.

More important to this thread, I’m also wondering if I should paint the few inches below the tile, as they are the worst areas of failing paint.

The first step in painting a painted pool is to determine what type of paint you have. I found this page:

Solvent #1) Denatured Alcohol – softens waterborne acrylic pool paint
Solvent #2) Xylene – softens both chlorinated rubber and synthetic rubber based pool paints
Solvent #3) MEK – softens solvent based epoxy pool paint

Note: The 3 solvents are typically available at your local paint store

So I need to go get them if I want to consider painting.
