Sand filter help

Got a 15 foot round above ground pool with a sand filter system and the pump on the filter keeps making a strange noise as if a rock or something is rattling around into flames it..everything was working perfectly last year and we’re just opening our pool this year when the noise started happening..any help as to what would be causing it would be greatly appreciated

Is there air in the pump sediment basket and it's not priming

I’m not sure about that..how can I tell?

Look in through the clear lid

Is the pump circulating water?
Does air come out of the return?

It is circulating but not sure if there’s air coming out

You would know if air wastrapped inside and the fact that the pump is circulating something may have got trapped in over winter
I suspect the only thing you can do is take the pump apart
