First post, appreciate any help.
I have an approx 25 year old Dolphin in-ground pool thats approx 13,000 gallons. As far as I know the equipment is all Hayward and except for the motor & pump is the same age as the pool. The filter is a sand version and made of gray plastic or ABS.
The "backwash valve" was getting difficult to actuate and I want to the pool store and got new "o" rings and that helped life a bunch but when I powered the system back up again noticed pretty good drips coming out of the black "H" manifold that runs horizontal and attaches to the pool filter. Tried to tighten the large plastic nut holding it to the filter housing, but did no good and its still dripping a good amount of water when the pump is running.
The one leaking is the upper pipe going into the filter. I have not tried to unscrew the lower nut yet and assume that this is going to have to happen to get this manifold off so that hopefully this unit can be re-sealed.
Suggestions if you have ever seen this before? I am an aircraft mechanic so pretty handy with things but never done one of these!
Thanks!
Joe in Phoenix

Ditto, can you cut some O rings from flat rubber/neoprene etc. Alot of these connections are flat face to face, some are O rings so you might need an O ring kit if you cant find the right one but we need photos as Dennis said.
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.

Thanks and from what I am hearing from other sources the piping from the "Backflush valve manifold" goes into a fitting thats on the side of the sand filter, and that there is an "o" ring inside that fitting. Evidently its necessary to empty the sand out of the filter, then slide the filter sideways to expose the piping with the "o" ring.
Sounds like someone with a far younger back than mine, am a newly retired aircraft mechanic who bent over far too much when I was a pup.

I think you are right Joe, sadly a typical setup all glued connections so you can't remove the light weight stuff to carry out a service. So much easier with demountable unions.

If you feel up to it, cut the 3 pipes and install demountable unions.

Thanks and a friend of mine has a "redneck fix" that he has suggested trying first and if that does not work then we will probably go that route. It cannot be any worse than being upside down in the back of an airplane with a rivet gun! Thanks!
