Water drained out of pool

water drained out of the pool 1 foot below skimmers , I refilled the pool can I just turn the pump on to get the air out of the system

It's best to play it safe, take a bucket of water or the garden hose, open the pump leaf basket lid and fill it up with water just till it starts to overflow, put the lid back on, ensure it's snug, then power the pump on.

Make sure you are not standing in a puddle of water when you reach over to turn the power on. It will probably be the last think you remember before standing before the pearly gates.
