Hello! I'm new here so hope I put this in the right spot?
I plugged in the sand filter the other night to wake up in the morning and find I lost about 1000 gal of water. The water was pouring out a pretty good stream @ the backflush port on the filter while in regular filter mode? I guess something is clogged up? Or, is it time for a new filter? I noticed last year when I changed the filter sand, The new sand was much more condensed than the old course sand? However last year I had no problems.. So, I'm not sure what to do!! Can I disassemble it and clean or is it time to buy a new filter?
Thanks for any help in advance!!!
Charlie

Check the multi port valve on your filter. There should be several screws that hold the lid on it. With the system turned OFF, pull off that top plate of the multiport valve. You should see a wagon-wheel shaped gasket in there. Its pretty common for those to go bad and cause water to leak out of the backwash port while the system is running. Should only cost about 10-15 bucks for a new gasket depending on what valve you have.

You may have replaced the top part incorrectly, look at a similar one to check
