Pipe burned

I just moved to my new home with a glassfiber pool. I run the pump for nearly 3 hrs before I noticed that the water level was too low and there was no water pumped in the filter. As you can see the pipe connected to the pump was very hot and turned red. Do I need to change this pipe? Will the PVC pipe release any harmful substances into the water since it was burned? Is the water still safe to swim in? Thank you.

Hi Bluebee,

You should definitely replace the pipes. When PVC gets hot, it can shrink the fittings that go in and out of the pump, causing air and water leaks. Also check the basket inside the pump, as those can melt down and allow large debris to go inside the pump where they can clog the impeller.

The water is safe to swim in, the pvc heating up will not do anything to the water. But get those pipes replaces ASAP.
