Suction Side Air Leak possibly from lead inside Hayward filter

Postby Gilbertb11 » Sun 19 Feb, 2017 15:55

I noticed that my pump was losing prime whenever it shut off. I took advantage of needing to change the filter to see if there might be a problem with the Hayward Filter C5030. After removing the filters, I noticed that the PVC inside, specifically the SwimClear Piping Assembly (part #CX3030H Assy, SwimClear Piping) was leaking water after all the water had drained from the filter. I've attached a picture to show. While I may be wrong in assuming this was the cause of the suction issue, I assumed as much because I notice the water level in the pump drained on the the level of the actual leak. Might just be a coincidence though. So, question is, is that leak normal and supposed to be there. I almost appears to be a PVC casting issue (or mold injection issue). Thanks in advance for any help.
