High rate of sand loss to waste

Postby jwink » Sun 17 Jun, 2007 15:57

This weekend I installed a Triton II filter and a whisper flo 1hp pump in my 30000 gallon pool. The filter seems to work fine up until I use the backwash. Once I do this, I am getting high levels of sand pouring out the waste. The sand is proper sized and the airstrainer is attatched inside the filter. Any ideas on solving this problem?

Is there any possibility you put in too much sand? How deep is the sand level if you remove the top and shine a flashlight in there? Another possibility is maybe one or more of the rods in the bottom came loose or cracked and you didn't notice when you were installing it. Last question, and I hope not to offend, but what procedure did you use when filling the filter with sand?
