My Pool: 16x32 feet, inground, Carvin pump.

Huge backflush/wash when pump turned off

Postby poolman12 » Tue 17 Sep, 2019 15:25

About a year ago, I had my old Hayward 1 HP pool pump replaced with a Carvin model. (details available if needed).
Never been too happy with this thing.
The pool is an inground vinyl liner. Pump, filer and heater are indoors in a cabana.

Now this season, it won't prime on it's own. Seems to lose the water when it's shut off and I have to reprime, unlike my old Hayward.
Now, an odd thing has re-appeared and I have no clue what it means.

When I shut off the pump, there's this enormous whooshing sound and then what appears to be a huge pocket of air is sent backwards to the skimmer, sometimes large enough that the bubbling waters back up enough to appear on the pool deck out of the skimmer like a geyser!

Anyone have any ideas what this is suggesting and what I should do?

Much appreciated
-steve
