Heater Plumbing
Heater Plumbing
Hi. My heater was plumbed with a T type bypass pipe that connects the inlet and outlet pipes prior to them entering the heater. There is a single valve in the middle of this bypass pipe. I can see that the valve being closed would divert all water through the heater, but I don't understand why the valve is there... because if it is open, the water can still flow through the heater. Is this a common installation? I have a small leak in one of the elbows... so I thought I would check before doing the repair so I'm not duplicating a mistake. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Heater Plumbing
Sometines a bypass loop with valves is used so the heater can be isolated, however in your case it may be to restrict the flow through the heater
