Polaris booster pump removal

We have an in ground salt water pool with a Polaris pump but we no longer have a Polaris. Is it possible to remove the Polaris booster pump? I ask because when flipping the breaker for it, it shoots out sparks and pops. Breaker is off until further notice :D
