I just bought a house with what must be a very old in-ground pool.
My first pool.
I want to shock the pool.
Manufacturer of shock says to feed shock into skimmer while bypassing the filter (sand).
Only six settings are Filter, Rinse, Backwash, Winterize, Whirlpool, Drain. No Recirculate.
What to do?
Much obliged.

Re: How To Bypass Without Recirculate Setting
I would be inclined to try Whirlpool and see if it works
You don't need to buy shock just use liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite or plain bleach) and pour in front of a return
You can still filter throughout
Slam (Shock Level and Maintain) with relation to
Chlorine / CYA Chart and
Recommended Pool Levels
Pool Maths
BTW don't feed into skimmer either sprinkle it in the water

Re: How To Bypass Without Recirculate Setting
Just as Dennis said. Also it makes little difference if you shock and run filtration or recirculation.
Shocking is raising the level of free chlorine not a product.
All backwash valves are similar between backwash and rinse you have recirculate, forget whatever someone else has written
