Replacing old filter
I've had good service from my existing Hayward DE filter for many years, but it is wearing out and I am considering a new system. I requested a quote from a seemingly reputable pool guy and he quoted me a Pentair Cartridge filter. I always thought DE filters were best, but have things changed? Secondly, I would appreciate some opinions about which brand is most reliable (if there is really a difference). My Hayward has been solid, but are they still a good choice?

Re: Replacing old filter
The latest drive is to cartridge filters. They can provide clarity as good as DE, are about the same to maintain, and don't need the extra work and cost of the DE.

Re: Replacing old filter
I disagree, cartridge filters are usually strainers and you cannot use clarifyers/flocculent.
A sand filter filled with Dr Drydens Activate glass media is far better WITH the correct water flow.
