Hi mu Hayward Super Pump has a leak and I can't fix the leak so I'm going to replace it. I note the inlet/outlet connections on the pump are approx 70mm diameter. (See photo). But most pumps like Onga Liesuretime and Panterra say their pipe is 40mm/50mm union. Not sure why my pump has such large pipe connections. Any problems connecting pump with such smaller pipe dimensions? (Apart from having to replumb pipes). Photos of my setup below

Re: Hayward Super Pump replacement - pipe size problem
Its not why you have such large connection, its why are they using 40-50mm pipes! Just increases friction, robs you of flow and costs more in electricity.
You'll be able to fit reducers from the union to your pipe, you may want to consider a speed controller for your pump, it will improve things water quality wise and save a lot in electricity.

I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.

That 70mm is the thread size of the union thread not the pipe size
