Pentair 1HP pump

Postby Blackstar » Sat 16 Apr, 2022 14:12

My Pentair 1 hp pump died after a little more that one year. I had a spare Jacuzzi pump on hand so ran that for a couple years. Now I find that I was a little late removing the pump from service( we had an unusually early freeze) and my basket strainer is cracked. Is there a reset for this Pentair pump or is it just dead? Won't do a thing except sit there glaring at me. I will dismantle it but would like some advice beforehand.

Thanks Guys...

Glenn

Not much to go on there Glen.
Starting issues are often failed capacitors (condensors) an inexpensive part. Certainly be my starting point.
Wet ends as they are called can often be replaced as you are not alone in getting a frozen pump. It would probably be a good idea to get a speed controller for your pump as most pumps are way to powerful for good filtration, you generally only need that power for backwashing which is less than 1% of the filtration run time. That saves the pump and a fortune in electricity, good for the environment as well.
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.

Thank you for the info. I found my problem which, at first glance is an even less expensive fix. The toggle switch, which only switches the main Hot wire coming in burned up a little and melted the wire plug and the wire at the switch. Cheap to replace but I don't know why it melted the plastic switch. I have some pics on my phone which I will try to post here.

A household switch I installed for a test run. Seems to be good but why did the plastic toggle switch melt

This is just a guess, if the motor failed to start because of the capacitor it may have drawn a lot more power trying to start which is heat that destroyed the switch.
Its been many years since I tested motors but that is my thought.
