Pool leak - PVC plumbing

We have a one year old 16X80 vinyl liner pool with a salt water chlorinator and top mount sand filter. Early summer we noticed a good bit of water loss and had a great deal of sand in the deep end and near the jets. We are pretty sure at this point that we have a problem with the sand filter but it's the least of our worries. Although these problems appeared simultaneously we can't really make the connection. We finally found evidence of water on the surface. We seem to have a leak underground. Our pipes are 2" PVC but we haven't determined yet whether it's a crack, in a joint, etc. From the digging and searching my husband has done to this point, he suspects it's at a joint approximately 10 ft from the skimmer. If it's in the joint, what would be the best way to repair it? Would it have to be cut, do they make a repair kit...?

If you are getting sand in the pool there may be a lateral broken in the bottom of the filter. You could call builder about possible warranty with filter.

The only way to repair joint leak is to cut and replace it. Once you are able to get to it from above it, you can buy 2" PVC pipe, fittings-couplings-elbow-primer & glue at hardware store which would not be alot of money. If it is under concrete you might want to hire someone to do it. Again you could call builder about this sense it is 1yr old and their work.

Thanks for your response. You can probably guess that the builder hasn't been our biggest asset! The pool was built in 5/06 and we've already checked the warranties on the equipment...1 year warranties on everything. We've addressed issues with them in the past, hoping they would respond with integrity, but it hasn't been the case. We have a pool service company coming out to repair the filter for us. The leak, it seems, is under the concrete deck, but we're trying to go in from the side. Are you saying you think we need to go from above, and if so, why?

no you do not have to, but it will be alot harder the way it seems you are going to do it.
Lots of digging to get under concrete etc. Sorry to hear the builder does not care about quality
