Change slide valve to Multiport valve on sand filter

Postby Scottie A » Mon 07 Apr, 2008 23:21

I have a Pentair Triton II TR 60 sand filter with side mount slide valve. I need to replace the slide valve and was wondering if I could replace it with a newer multiport valve. It seems there is plenty of pentair side mount valves available for this filter. What is the difference from a High Flow valve vs a multiport valve? They seem to be the same thing. Any info would be great.

If you change to a multiport use a the high flow multiport. The slide valve reduces flow by 5ft of head. The multiport valve reduces by 9ft of head, and the high flow multiport by 1 ft of head. The hi flow has much less restriction.

Thanks Dave. Do you recommend a certain multiport valve for conversion? I have found the Pentair high flow valve for around $100 at various pools stores. I just want to make sure before I start that this conversion is the right way to go.

You got it right. Spend the extra dollars and buy 3 unions when you pipe the new multiport in. You will find out why in about 5 years.

Thanks again Dave. Silly question, but what do you mean by unions?
