older d e filter

i have a sand filter now and my friend gave me an older american titan stainless steel 72 sq ft de filter with a 2 hp super 2 pump. should i install this set up or is it too old and or obselete . my sand filter doesnt seem to do the job too good

Examine the filter to see the condition. If the filter grids are in good condition it may well be worth it. If you can install yourself then you can always reinstall the sand filter if it doesn't work out.

The clamp on the filter may be the weak link. Check the bolts to see what condition they are in.
