replacing 24" sand filter with a smaller size filter

Postby BMT » Sun 13 Jul, 2008 09:13

Greetings,
I have an 20x40 in-ground pool with a 24" sand filter. The filter is shooting sand back into the pool and I suspect the laterals have been damaged. the filter is old anyhow so I plan to replace it .

I found a very good deal on a used Jacuzzi laser 225 filter which supports 53 GPM and requires 250lbs of sand .

The pump I have is Franklin electric 3/4 hp with 346 RPMs . Thats all what I can read on it. The plumpbin into the pump is either 1.5" or 2" . I can double check that if needed

Can I use the Jacuzzi filter as a replacement ?

Thanks in advance for the help ,

Mark

Why not remove your sand and replace the laterals in your old one. You would be buying a used filter anyways. You could keep the sand and reuse it. All you would need is new laterals and a filter cleaner/degreaser. Much cheaper.

The filter is a 30 years old and I can not find parts for it any more . I forgot to mention that the valve is almost broken too as water leaks to the backwash as well . I plan to reuse the sand anyhow.

The Jackuzzi laser225 is being sold for $25

Thanks,
