pool drain problem

Postby dom » Sat 20 Sep, 2008 15:41

We have been having issues with our pool for sometime. It just doesn't filter properly. After draining the pool we have discovered that the bottom drain line is clogged and have have tried using a snake to clear it. but that did not work. Any suggestions

Is this an inground pool or above ground?

As long as the skimmer isn't clogged also you should be able to filter just fine, even with a blocked main drain.

If you are able to remove the main drain cover you can use a drain king (attaches to garden hose. can get them cheaply at home depot etc). With the equipment off, insert the drain king into the pipe at the pump that leads back toward the pool.

If you can isolate the main drain line, do that. Turn on the water to the garden hose. The drain king expands and forces water back through the line to the main drain. Debris should come out of the drain.

This does depend on how the system is plumbed. If you can close the skimmer line and isolate the main drain line it will work best.
