Pump Sizing and Hydraulics

Postby open2education » Thu 30 Oct, 2008 21:57

Hello,
I am building a commercial pool of ~1800 cubic metres and the turnover rate has been specified to be 2.5 hours. Can someone advice on the number of pumps that will be ideal and the selection? What will be the rating of the pump that will handle this flow rate? Also, the hydraulics of the system is presently being resolved but quite challenging. Any advice?

1800 cubic meters is 475,509 gallons. A turnover rate of 2.5 hours would mean an overall flow rate of about 3170 gallons per minute or 12,000 liters per minute. So you'll have to look at pump curves for your pumps to determine how many you will need and will have to estimate your head based on your pipe diameter, length and flow rate. There are probably some tools or calculators for this, but I don't know of any offhand.
