Burning smell coming from pool pump

Postby merikson » Tue 19 May, 2009 19:42

I noticed today that there was a burning smell coming from one of my pool pumps. I opened up the skimmer basket in the pool pump and it was scolding out and was full of yard debris. I cleaned out the basket and turned it back on. There doesn't seem to be water going through it. I am assuming that might be the cause of it getting so hot. Any suggestions?

Burning smell coming from pool pump

Might have cooked the pump seal, you will need to get it running to see if it leaks. The heat probably warped at least the suction fitting right at the pump. Wiggle it and see if it is loose. In a pinch you can wipe some silicone around the joint but it really needs to be replaced. Hopefully it is a good pump and will survive some heat without warping too bad. Some pumps almost become puddles when that happens and are due for tossing.
