Spider Gasket Question.

Postby Hookem » Fri 28 Aug, 2009 07:13

Changed the laterals and sand in a Tagelus 60 top mount...Can a spider gasket be so bad that it will not allow the filter to work properly...Having trouble getting the pool to clear...Here is a pic.

Yes, definitely shot. Looks like bad chemistry has destroyed it. What you need is a new diverter and also grab the diverter stem oring.

Bolt the dial valve down again, its spring loaded and this will make it easier. Knock the handle pin out. Remove the dial valve top again and pop in the new diverter and orings.

MAKE SURE THE NEW DIVERTER GOES IN THE SAME WAY AS IT CAN BE 180 DEGREES OUT.

Bolt it down again and put the handle pin back in. Run it through its filter and backwash cycles to make sure the water flow is correct.

Thank you for the rely.

You are right...You cannot buy the spider gasket for that valve...The spring was also broken...So I just bought the whole assembly.

A big problem was the guy was backwashing, and rinsing with the pump on.

Yep, but that usually tears the spider gasket right out of its seat. And usually not these ones where the gasket is incorporated in the diverter. Improper chemical balance will soften and deteriorate the rubber and if the pump is left running while changing DV positions its quite easy for the gasket to get impregnated with debris, as the picture shows.
