Pool Pump Motor

Happy Holidays to All,

I currently have a noisy pool motor, I replaced it about 8 years ago and its recently become noisy, I assume it is probably the bearings.
The current motor is a AO Smith UST1072 3/4 hp.
My local retailer lists it for $180.00. I have seen it online for as low as $130.

My questions are as follows;

Are there any major diffrences between manufacturers for the motor?
Equivelent Emerson (EB227) list for $116.00 online.
Are any significantly quieter then others?
Any reccomendatioons for online dealers?

read the online reviews
usually the more expensive pumps get better ratings

you should be able to find noise level specs from the manufacturers' websites

Thanks for your response. Just to clarify I am only looking to replace the motor not the pump and motor assy.
Most reviews I seem to find only talk about them as one housing. Not sure if that is apples and apples for trying to compare just the motors. I would guess that their is a portion of the sound levels atrtibuted to the impellar housing as well. Hope this makes sense. I will search this boards review section as you suggested.

Sorry I misunderstood. If the noise is worrying you then send the motor for a service rather than replacing it. A new may not may not seat perfectly on the old pump.

A new set of bearings should not set you back much at all, and you can save $$s which you can put towards a new pump in the future.

Agreed. It cost me $50.00 Canadian to replace the bearings after 7 years, and the pump sounds brand new now. As long as you haven't let the pump run too long in this condition (i.e. motor is damaged due to excessive heat) the pump should give you at the minimum another 8 years of life.
