pool pump with filter but wont backwash.

We had our pool pump go out. Replaced the pump with a brand new Hayward Super II. The new pump will filter fine but when we try to backwash the pool it kicks off. It doesn't trip the breaker. It works for a few minutes then quits. Once you turn it back to filter it works fine. Any suggestions on what the problem is.

Are you around for an extended period to make sure it actually is working fine? The reason I ask, is if you are running a 110v, and leave the pump motor switched to it's factory default of 220v, it will automatically kick off after X amount of time, then kick back on again repeating infinitely.
