New pool owner, need lots of help.

Hello everybody,

I found your forum after looking around online for info on a pool I recently got permission to work on.
I have a few heads ready to get to work, and invest in this thing, but it hasn't been in service for a long time, and recently got filled with rainwater.

It's really gross and green, and I took a couple of pics to get started.

We used to use this pool until my uncle passed away, and it has sat for maybe five years. I was told the pump and filtration work, and are newer, as in replaced right before it stopped being used. I don't remember any issues with the pool other than the fact that we would not run the heater due to energy concerns.

Well, here are two pics to get started, I figure you all can ask me questions and I can try and gather as much info as possible. If someone could guess the size and let mew know what to do first, I'd appreciate it.

Any help would be appreciated, and yes I know the pool is nasty and is gonna be a hell of a project.

What is the construction?
Sizing is simple length X breadth x average depth
In metres x 1000 = litres
In feet x 6.25= UK gallons
If all the water was drained out previously with out any affect, drain it all out and acid wash to clean
Refill and test for leaks
Check that the pump hasn't seized up

This does help, and I am also reading my way through the beginners section. I'll be taking measurements and trying to figure out the construction material this week.

Any quick way to tell?

I'll probably get to that article sooner or later, but if you have any info. . . .

Also, trying to figure out what the different items are in the pic of the pool pump/parts etc?

If you tap the side you can generally tell if it's fibreglass (hollow) or gunite/concrete (solid)
The three way valve is the suction from the skimmer and probably the main drain going to the pump (you can share how much from each
The pipe coming of the top of the pump should be going to the filter and the other pipe coming out of the filter would be the return to the pool but you may have other equipment that I can't identify (heater, chlorinator etc.) that is in between
Maybe clean it all up (remove weeds and grass) and take a few more photo's
