Green Pool

Postby spursbabe » Sun 07 Aug, 2011 09:51

We have an above ground pool and it has turned green over the past few days, everyone is saying it is because of the heat and just to keep adding Algecide :? . The pool is a 24ft round (55000 litres) and has a sand filter. Can anyone help with this. Our Chlorine is non existant even though we have shocked it and keep shocking it. We are fairly new to owning a pool and not sure what is the best course of action.....

Read Defeating Algae. Get yourself a proper test kit, either the Taylor K-2006 or the TFTestkits TF-100. If your CYA level is high (> 60 ppm), then dilute the water to lower it. Use chlorinating liquid or 6% unscented bleach or if your CH level is low (< 200 ppm) you can use Cal-Hypo. Do not use Dichlor or Trichlor unless your CYA is very low (< 30 ppm).
