Pool algae

Hello Larry my daughter has been fighting pool algae since 1996. Test show excessive algae and local suppliers have recomended a number of chemicals which work but the algae continues to win. There are no trees near the pool, an often asked question. The above ground pool has a treated wood deck which is above the top of the pool. Is there a chance that water run-off from the deck is the problem?
Thanks in advance for your help. The Ol Man

Pool algae

It's more likely that you are using Trichlor pucks/tabs and that the Cyanuric Acid (CYA aka stabilizer or conditioner) level is very high. This makes the chlorine less effective. I suggest you get your own good test kit, either the Taylor K-2006 or the TFTestkits TF-100. I also suggest you read the Pool School to learn how to properly maintain the pool, especially the appropriate Free Chlorine (FC) level for your CYA level.
