Does Yellow algae Have to be vaccuumed to Waste?
Does Yellow algae Have to be vaccuumed to Waste?
Have light coating of yellow algae on bottom of pool which is easily picked up by vaccume. Will it collect in my sand filter until I backwash or do I have to vaccume to waste?

You should be able to filter it out, but note that it takes a higher level of chlorine to kill yellow/mustard algae and you should check behind light niches and under removable ladders since it likes to hang out in shade and will come back if you don't completely get rid of it.

Thanks for yours. Just to clarify, will the yellow algae be dead and remain in the filter until I backwash without causing any revival of the algae or might it cause a renewal of the algae if left in the filter too long?

If you shock at the high yellow/mustard algae shock level, it will be dead. The problem is that behind light niches the chlorine level won't get that high, at least not for quite a while. Read Mustard Algae for more info.
