green algae problem...no water analysis available

hi there!
ok...like most people here, my problem is with green algae also. sadly i live in a place where there are no water testing centers nor pool shops. the only wisdom available are from old guys who were once pool caretakers and the only advise they could give is "dump chlorine".

well sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

the onyl thing i could probably tell you at is that the pool is about 25,000 US Gal.....thats it, thats all i know.

i would like to know what you mean by "shocking" the pool?
what does baking soda do?
what does alum do?

and lastly, how do i get the green algae outta my pool make the water very clear?

sorry, we have no means of testing the pH balance of the water.
