New Pool Owner Help w/ Mustard Algae

Postby jwiggins1984 » Tue 04 Aug, 2020 18:01

Have a 18×48 Summer Waves Vinyl Quickset holds approx 7500 gallons of water. Most of the summer the water stayed great with a weekly shock, a chlorinator floater with 3inch chlorine puck, and balanced PH. Now I have what I believe is mustard (brown/yellow) algae. Per google I have brushed, vacuumed, shocked, clarified in that order 3x over. It is not going away. I run the 1000 gph 8 hours each night. I use the Clorox xtra blue 6 in 1 granules. Someone please help me!

Read this blog on mustard algae
Get some Liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite or plain bleach)
Let's have your numbers, not from guess strips, so we can check why it's happening
FC:
TC:
pH:
TA:
CH:
CYA:
Excessive CYA renders your chlorine ineffective and you have to use more to get the same sanitation
For every 10 ppm Free Chlorine (FC) added by Trichlor, it also increases Cyanuric Acid (CYA) by 6 ppm.
For every 10 ppm FC added by Dichlor, it also increases CYA by 9 ppm.
For every 10 ppm FC added by Cal-Hypo, it also increases Calcium Hardness (CH) by at least 7 ppm
To reduce your CYA you have to do a partial drain and refill
