green pool but why

green pool but was fine on sunday july 13 , did what rec wh, leslies, polynesian, but could not get equal answer. had real bad t-storms and went to work on tues got home total green. will go to aqualiesure pools to talk to bob tomorrow. heard he is good. Any info why pool took dump.
Put 1 bag of shock in on friday after everyone said ok. don't like it when 3 different stores tell you 3 different things. called it quits tonight after trying to vac to waste and no headway.27 foot round above ground 52 inch of water. somebody please help!

First things first do you have a good liquid test kit? If not GET ONE! I use the Taylor K 2006- its very reliable and accurate- it tests FC up to 50ppm which is essential when shocking. What are your current chemistry readings? Chances are your chlorine level was low when the thunder storms came through (i know they were bad- i'm in MD and saw what was going on in our neighbor to the south). Rains from thunder storms contain higher levels of nitrogen than regular rains. This nitrogen feeds the algae. The rains will also dilute the chlorine to some degree. If you can post your chemistry numbers and how many gallons your pool is I can help you out. I prefer not to trust pool stores because of exactly what you ran into. Not only that they will sell you VERY expensice chemicals when you can get the same things at the grocery store or hardware store for half the price. You are going to need to shock your pool and keep the chlorine at shock level until that level holds overnight. One pound is probably not going to cut it. Once the level holds overnight you know that all the organics are dead. I cant tell you what your shock level is without knowing your CYA level.
