First time pool owner

Postby bodine50 » Tue 20 Jun, 2017 19:12

I just bought a new house that has a in ground pool looking to see if someone could tell me what position the valves need to be in to use a automatic vacuum. Here's a pic any help would be greatly appreciated.also the pic on the right with open lid goes to jets in my pool like a hot tub what I was told. I don't have a hot tub. Thanks everyone

The first image shows the main drain and skimmer, one with a valve connecting to the pump inlet
The other one shows a three way valve in the ground which probably is there for vacuuming
I suggest you try the two other positions and see if the vacuum port is sucking but make sure your vacuum hose is full of water other wise you will be sucking in air and your pump will lose prime

How the valve on the left in the top picture what position does it in to be on for regular service and what position does it need to be in to vacuuming. The reason I'm asking I bought a brand new vacuum and it barley moves at at all. I have suction. I wanna thank you for all help.

That 3 way valve on the left is your returns to the pool and is giving equal to both returns, only change if you want to change your return flows
The 2 way valve on the right shuts off the flow from either the skimmer or main drain. Try turning that valve off and see if your suction improves. Your vacuum line may be on a T
Remember that when you have finished vacuuming to put it back to the origonal position

Poor suction
Have you backwashed your filter?
What is the pressure at the filter
Do you have a good flow on the returns?
Do you get a lot of pine needles as they can get through the pump filter basket and lodged in the impellor
Give as much info about your pool as you can

You backwash the filter but it seems that you have a cartridge filter which can't be backwashed
The fact you cleaned the filter and have low pressure is OK if the pressure had been 20% to 25% higher than your clean pressure it's time to clean
Is the return flow good, if so you just aren't getting enough suction through your vacuum port, try altering the valves
