I open my pool this year and started up the filter to find that a ran at 10PSI for about a 1/2 hour and then jumped to about 25-30PSI So I proceeded to give it a TDP bath For about 6 hours followed by an acid bath for 12 hours after completing the acid bath I hosed the fingers down of the perfect and Put the filter back together. I then prime the pump and it started running at 8PSI then I put 7 pounds of DE into the filter and the PSI went to 12PSI where it ran on 12PSI for about 40 minutes and then it began to climb in pressure again until it reached About 28PSI at which point it stopped pumping water. So I went out and bought a Hayward pro grid 3620. How does this compare to the per flex EC65? And is it to over powerful for my pool. I have a 12 by 24 in ground oval pool

The fact that a clean filter went from 12 to 28 PSI in a short time meant it was doing it's job and removing dirt from your pool
There is nothing wrong with an oversized filter in fact it's better than a small filter
I can't tell you what is the better but Teapot who is an expert on filtration will be along to advise soon

It's DE Dennis, I hate DE.
Nasty free silica containing stuff, dirty and messy to work with, then the expense.
A filter can never be over powerful for a pool. Only a pump can be overpowerful.
