which timer or relay for my new pump

Hi,
have just replaced my pump with an identical Hayward SP1611XE161, 975 watt, 4,3 amp
My timer has just gone pop, :( the one that came with the pool 11 years ago and it will be extremely expensive to replace.
I just want to replace it with a simple timer, the place it sits in is a weather proof cabin.
can I just use an ordinary timer or does it have to be some special one designed to take some massive current?
Thaanks
Stan
