Issue with Hayward Hose?

Postby aaarneson » Fri 20 Nov, 2015 14:35

I bought a new Hayward Pool Vac XL. And adjusted everything it told me too. Called Hayward for help, Etc. Still had the same problem. It would run but then get stuck on the low corner of a wall or just float and not go down at all after about an hour or so. Returned the pump and put my old barracuda g2 back with the old hose and everything was back to normal.

Had a hole in a couple of the hose sections of the old hose so the total length was a bit short. Saw a used hayward hose for sale in my area. Bought and tried it out with the barracuda g2. It kind of had the same issue as the Hayward Pool VAC XL. It would just stop pumping and moving or get stuck in the corner when it never did that before.

Am I having an issue with my pump or the hose? Or both?

Thanks

It sounds like the hose is too light and the tendency to float is lifting the cleaner up, preventing it from moving as it should.
Try adding some hose weights near the cleaner to keep it sitting firmly on the pool floor and then let us know if there is any improvement.

Bought the second type and that didn't help. It almost seems like it is not getting the correct pressure needed with this hose. It will run fine and then all of a sudden just stop. I am not sure if it has to do with my pump or if I should just get a different hose.

When the cleaner stops:
  1. Does the pump keep working normally or is there a drop in pressure?
  2. Does the pump suck air or lose prime?
  3. Does the cleaner start working again after a few minutes?
  4. Does the hose kink or collapse anywhere?

I'm just trying to get my head around some of the possible causes such as leaky o-rings, too restrictive suction line...

Also, what size is your pump and what size hose are you using?
Is there a pressure relief valve where the hose connects to the skimmer or vacuum port?
