Hello all im new to the forum thanks for the add.
My Pool is in a school, the school hire the pool out to the public over weekends and evenings.
Today i get a call from the pool saying there's no water in. i went over to find 80% of the pool water missing, went in check pool plant room and find water coming out sight glass on top of the filter.
Checked all valves and all in correct positions.
Stripped it down cleaned and refitted seals cleaned the multi-port valve and put all back together. when i switched pump back on it blew the top of the filter with a lot of force and pressure.
Filter has new sand in 12 months ago and no other chemicals except the normal have been added.
So my question is..........Is it possible for the multi-port valve to fail and cause the pressure to build and blow the top off the filter as i find it hard to see how the filter can get blocked.
TIA
Multi-port Valve

Re: Multi-port Valve
You really need to get the pool filled again to prevent any damage
Generally speaking the multiport valve has a spider gasket inside which can fail and pump to waste or return unfiltered water to the pool
What were the pressures like before, compared to clean as that would give an indication as to how dirty the filter was
If you set the MPV to recirculate it will bypass the filter enabling you to pump water round the system and investigate further

Re: Multi-port Valve
In short yes. if the water level went down past skimmers/scum channel/edge drain, what ever you have and a surge from bomb diving etc could cause air to be drawn in then water causing a hydraulic shockwave and possibly that is how the sight glass was blown out.
Moving on, when there is air in the filter and the system is switched on that air gets compressed by the water and it is very dangerous as it can blow filters apart. I have seen this 3 times in my short career (13y). It is vital to release the air trapped in the filter before starting the system.
That is provided I have understood you correctly?
