Sand filter

Might be a silly question , looking at changing my sand filter , looked at 2 filters , same quantity of sand , one tall and thin one short and wide so to speak , what’s the best one and why?

Are you sure the tall and thin is a sand filter and not a cartridge
With sand filters the greater surface area is the better
Why do you want to change your sand filter as sand lasts for ever

Filter split as was very old , both sand , one is like a perfect cylinder and the other is more like a ball shape so wide surface , just couldn’t work out why if large surface is better that filter is cheaper

Short fat/round filters are useless, the don't have enough height to allow a decent backwash and you wash the media out of the filter.
The diameter of the filter needs to suit the turnover rate of your pool.
