Need some help

I was given a salt generator from a friend but I have an all steel above ground pool.. I read mixed reviews is it worth putting this on my pool or am I killing the life of the pool by inviting rust

You are increasing the risk of corrosion, if you are going ahead with this include a zinc sacrificial anode to help reduce the issue. be aware that splash out of salt water could go down the back of the structure which is possibly less protected than the vinyl covered inside of the pool.
