How often/long to run filter
Hello everyone, new to the whole pool scene, I live in NY and I was wondering how long should I run my pump for? What time of day? Does it go by the hp of your pump and size of your pool? The pool store told me 8 to 12 hrs a day but just wanted to check with the forum first, you guys have been very helpful

Just long enough to keep it clean and mix chemicals

Re: How often/long to run filter
I have the same question. I’ve been running mine 24/7 for years and a friend recently told me that wasn’t necessary. Would it be ok to shut it off during the hours that it’s dark outside?

Re: How often/long to run filter
With your system (SWCG) you are dependant on the pump run time for your chlorine generation.
Chlorine generators are generally rated for 24/7 at 100% operation, this is why when sizing a SWCG you should double the required output so that it isn't running 24/7 at 100%
You would have to check your SWCG settings and possibly up them to get your required chlorine output
