Tiger Shark control box smoked

Hi, I have a Tiger Shark. It was working fine but recently I turned it on and it did not appear to be moving. I looked and the light was not on for the button. I turned it on again and the controller unit started to smoke. I unplugged it immediately.

Now I am considering replacing the controller but am concerned as I do not know why it fried. If there is an issue with the vacuum unit itself, I will likely end up ruining the new controller.

Any thoughts?
