Replaced pump motor... now motor is cycling ON/OFF due to overheating

Postby sc pool owner » Wed 18 Aug, 2021 21:42

Have replaced pump motor - old one was due for replacement - bearings shot.
New motor is same HP and RPM and voltage rating as old one.
Replaced shaft seal and gaskets while doing the motor replacement.

Pump/motor starts up fine - primes - has good suction - has good flow - has good voltage @ 229V at the terminals when under load.
Pump runs fine for 20 minutes - shuts off - comes back on after 10 minutes - runs 5 minutes... shuts off... this ON/OFF cycle repeats.
A little research tells me the motor overload protection is functioning.

So why is the motor getting overloaded...?
Impeller is clean. Flow is good.
Air vents on bottom of motor housing is free from debris and air flow is open.
Motor outer housing is HOT.
Thought this may be a motor defect - so local pool supply store allowed for a motor swap to another one.
Second motor is doing the same thing.

Any thoughts for what could be causing the motor overheating?
