UK alternative to Taylor K-2006 kit?

Postby Eddles » Wed 09 Feb, 2022 17:28

Hi all, I'm in the UK, and I'm responsible for my parent's pool A while ago, someone recommended the Taylor K-2006 FAS DPD kit which is excellent, and I like it a lot. However, I've run out of R-0871 titrating reagent, and I've found out that it will cost me USD $175 all in just to get 2 x 0.75oz bottles of R-0871 from an approved Taylor distributor in Spain. There is no UK distributor, and no-one here in the UK sells anything to do with Taylor. I have just been burnt trying to get the R-0871 from the USA that never arrived, and that cost me USD $100.

So I'm looking for an alternative to the Taylor test kit that's available in the UK, and far cheaper to purchase refills, please? Many thanks!

I don't think there is as I would purchase from them as well
I have previously got some from Amazon but is unavailable at the moment
Ebay has some https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/382561928071?epid=1204525825&hash=item591277c387:g:gE0AAOSw9BRetX9l

There is the Palintest kit, problem is they support the industry but are not a user friendly company. For end users, they dont like them, that company needs a new Director to take over and boost their business.
I cannot get any kits from LaMotte at the moment, actually it has been a couple of months since I contacted them so will make the call later. They have test kits for most things you'll need.
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.

Not keen on eBay, as I brought the $100 refills from there. Never turned up, provided tracking showed nothing, and eBay refused to refund me. Luckily, Paypal did a chargeback, so now I'm unfortunately no longer keen on eBay, even though I've been an eBayer since 1999.

OK thanks, I've already got a fairly old Palintest comparator kit which I'll use until the R-0871 is easier and more reasonable to get. Thank you!

Which parts are you short of?

Not sure what you're referring to, it's just the R-0871 I'm short of. Thank you.

Ok, so if you're not doing anything special std DPD would be ok until you re stock. Just enquiring in case there was anything I coul do to help as I have retired from pool work but still have some things left over, comparators, CYA test kits and some reagents for Palintest.

I ended up using this https://www.lovibond.com/en/PC/Water-Te ... p-Test-Kit

Not quite the same as a Fas dpd test but according to the instructions on that page gives enough accuracy for pool maintenance and SLAM level FC tracking.

You only need the reagents pack (I got from here https://testallwater.co.uk/products/lov ... agent-pack) if you have a tube, syringe etc already.

Only issue is it doesn’t do TC (so can’t get CC) value using this method.

Yes Lovibond are a lot easier to deal with, always had a good rapport with them. I will make another call to LaMotte to see how supplies and the new units are coming along

That sounds ideal, will send Lovibond a quote request. Thank you!
