COVERSTAR pool cover

We use Pool Cover Specialists too. They are a national. They're service is amazing and my cover works great. I can't complain. You can call them. :thumbup:

I just made my own replacement rope today. I used "double braided dacron rope" from a boating supply store and I had a piece of nylon (that I cut from an old duffle bag) sewn to the rope. I was going to use a shoe repair guy to do the sewing for me, but a friend of mine does car upholstry and he sewed it on it less than a minute. I used a soldering iron to burn the three holes into the nylon. this was the easy part and the whole job only cost me $50. I could have ordered the rope online and got it for $20, but I wanted it done this weekend.
the hard part was putting it all back together. my cover is mounted under the coping, so fishing the rope through the aluminum channel was a little difficult, but it will take me just a few minutes next time around. I spent about 2 1/2 hours total taking the old rope off and putting on the new one. the next time I have to replace a rope, it should take me no more than an hour. I'm sure the above ground tracks would be much easier.
the cover is working beautifully and I didn't have to call the coverstar dealer to come and ream me to replace my rope again. the first time my rope broke, they blamed it on rodents too!

A cheaper and better solution; we got ripped on replacement rope last year and vowed never again.

Coverstar Pool Cover Buddies,
I haven't been on the computer for awhile, but I have had great communication with the CEO of Coverstar and he has been very helpful. I truly believe he is getting Coverstar's image and reputation to an excellent status. They stand behind their product. They are working on training their field reps to have better customer service skills. I understand that this is their goal and with their quality products, this should be a win win situation.

Since the Re-org, I don't know who the CEO is anymore? Is it Laven, a guy from Littlejohn or a guy from the bank?

BCGreene1 you da man! There are an abundance of appropriate ropes available through West Marine here in the Seattle area, but you may have a monopoly on the "How to" install the new rope. I can't find any info on how to attach the rope to the cover. Wouls you please share your findings about how to attach the new rope? I am particularly interested in the tabs you have made.

On a Coverstar Cover made in the last 7 yrs, the rope attatches to the blck slider on an under track system and to the wheel assembly on a top track. There is a metal plate with 4 screws and the the fabric tab is screwed to slider or wheel assembly.

For the guy that changed the rope on his under guide system. It should not take 2 hrs to replace the rope, and no need to try and feed or push it thru the track. Pull your cover back out of the track. The track can be removed by taking out the shim underneath the track. You can then remove it from the housing and put it on your deck. You can then take the end of the rope and work it back and forth in the grove of the track like dental floss and it will pop in. Then just pull the end of the rope down the track, go around your pulley and then back to the end. It should take about 30 minutes to do both sides.

Make sure you check your pulleys that they spin freely and do not move back and forth in the housing. If they do replace them. If not you may find all your work will need to be redone. Nothing worse for a rope is a pulley not working. That is true for all mfgs of covers. Just ask them.

Also if you replace 1 rope replace them both or you may find your cover running crooked. It is just like a tire on your car. If one goes bad your replace at least 2 to keep it balanced.

It really was an easy fix. just like "just a cover guy" said, there's a metal plate with four screws holding the the nylon tab to the cover. I took it apart and just duplicated it. I suggest only taking one side apart at a time so can you use the other side for reference when putting it back together.
If I ever have to do it again, it would take 30 minutes max.

its been 3 months since I've replaced the rope and its working great.

someone in an earlier post made a great point about the original coverstar rope not having any stretch, so there is no give when you go to open the cover. this might be the reason the ropes break. I'm convinced the marine rope is a better way to go.

I will let everyone I know and spread this news about this poorly designed product and poorly run company that does not stand behind their product. These ropes are a design flaw and they will not stand behind their product. If I can prevent 1 person from getting a pool cover installed by Performance pools of Minnesota and/or Coverstar, I will be a little relieved. My ain is to prevent at least 10 people from amking that mistake.

I thought we were the only ones having this many problems with our coverstar system. Ours in 7 years old and we've had multiple broken ropes, tracking replaced and broken parts in the motor. We are in our 50's and take very good care of our pool....no abuse at all. We have paid thousands of dollars in 7 years due to service calls and replacement parts. I wish we had NEVER purchased this type of cover. And the ridiculous part is.....when it breaks...there's NO way to open the cover manually, so you can't even use your pool !!!
the closest service center is in Indiana (we live in KY )....and yep, we pay them travel time !
I would not advise ANYONE to purchase a Coverstar !!!

Can you please tell me exactly what the rope is called? I would like to order some. You wouldnt' believe my story ----the eastcoast coverstar rep came out to look at our cover which was jammed, snipped the rope with scissors then told us it will cost $800 to replace!
