stains

I have a twenty six year old pool 12x24.. have had two liner replacements. I have just this year noticed small stains that look similar to rust. Some one suggested placing a "spotting bag" over the stain .. I have a few of these small rust looking stains. Any idea of what might cause them? Pool chemistry?? There has been nothing metal put into the pool... The spotting bag did work but they cost about five bucks a piece. Anyone got any ideas of how to prevent them in the first place? I may have a high concentration of stabilizer in the water could this be the cause?

The usual cause of this stain in vinyl pools is cheap granular chlorine. Some less refined granular chlorines have an iron residual.

Try using some vitamin c tablets crushed up in a sock.
