My Pool: old inground (1970's?) pool, Pentair IntelliFlo Pump VS+ 3.2kW 3HP, Hayward DE2420 48 gpm filter

my older inground pool has a skimmer 3'4" deep! I can't reach to attach any hoses etc. is there a fix for this? Why were skimmers ever designed this deep?

It isn't a skimmer if it's that deep. Never heard of this before
You need to rig up a vacuum port or get a pool robot and leaf net
