Do you know where the rust stain came from?

For spot removal you can hold a pvc pipe to the stain and add HCL acid a cup at a time as required to lower your pH and this helps remove it.

I like the pipe idea

I've just posted a thread about rust stains elsewhere and my theory is that the mesh in the concrete is near the surface in that area...

i just started noticing some of the same rust colored spots on the bottom as well.

luckily a guy from the pool company was out when I asked him and he gave me the same "pipe and ACID" fix, but he also said that on many stains, you can turn off your filters and let the water become still (10 miutes) and then pour some pool shock directly over the stain and then it settle, then brush off a few minutes later.

in my case, I've got an exposed pool and a large sycamore tree. The stains seem to be a result of debris from the tree that had settled on the bottom.
